WATER AND SEWER INFORMATION
MONTHLY BILLING RETURNS!! The Backus City Council voted unanimously on Monday, December 5, 2011 to return to monthly billing for water and sewer services effective July 2012. CORRECTION: You will receive your LAST QUARTERLY bill for March 15 to June 15 shortly after June 15. That bill will be due Aug 2. Your first monthly billing will come in July and be due September 2, 2012.

Please watch for the change and if you have any questions, please contact City Hall.

If you have any issues relating to water or sewer services, please contact Backus City Hall at 947-3221 or the Pine River Sanitary District at 587-2924. Staff will contact Lee, Andy, or Ted to resolve the issue. They may be reached at 218-838-4823 for after hour emergencies.

A printed copy of the 2011 Drinking Water Report is available upon request during regular office hours at City Hall. The report is also posted at the Post Office and The First National Bank in Backus.

NEW EMPLOYEE
Justin Good was hired as part-time summer help for the maintenance department.

FIRE DEPARTMENT
Chief Karl Flier wants to remind everyone of the following:
• Please make sure that dryer vents and piping going to the outside of the building are cleaned out. When the lint builds up, it can ignite causing a fire.
• If you are interested in being a member of the fire department, please contact City Hall.

CITY DROP BOX
The Drop Box located in the entryway of City Hall will be available to citizens 24 hours a day effective immediately.

HOUSE NUMBERS
This reminder is from the Police Department, Fire Department, First Responders, and Ambulance. As per the City Code Book, Section 920.02 Subd. 1: Address numbers shall be displayed on houses or principal buildings not less than four inches high, and of contrasting color to the background. Make sure the house numbers are clear and visible. In an emergency situation, every second counts!!

FLY-IN BREAKFAST
The annual Fly-In Breakfast will be held July 29, 2012 at Backus Municipal Airport.

CORNFEST
Cornfest will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2012
PLEASE VOLUNTEER FOR CORNFEST - WHETHER YOU ARE ON THE PLANNING COMMITTEE OR WORK THE DAY OF THE EVENT. LET’S KEEP THIS EVENT GOING STRONG BY HELPING OUT. CONTACT CITY HALL FOR INFORMATION.
